Armed Bandits Burgle Capitol Hotel Buea

Armed bandits have robbed workers and customers at Capitol Hotel, Buea, of money and valuables at gun point.

According to investigators at the Judicial Police, Buea, four armed men stormed the hotel premises shortly after midnight on Tuesday March 26, and took hostage the guards, a receptionist, and other customers who were still drinking at the bar.

After collecting close to 400.000FCFA, mobile phones, laptops, and other valuables, the thieves asked the receptionist, Nicholas, to give them the keys of the rooms. In all, four rooms were attacked including that of a German, a French national, and that of a Cameroonian family.

After successfully operating in two of the rooms, the bandits met stiff resistance in the third, and in the course of the struggle, shot one of the occupants (name withheld), in his right leg.

The robbers made away with money and valuables estimated at about FCFA 10 million, and are still on the run.

The injured man is presently responding to treatment at a hospital in Buea, (name of hospital withheld), while the Judicial Police in Buea continue their investigations.

The robbery of Capitol Hotel comes weeks after reports of similar incidents targeting foreigners in Limbe.
