The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, is set to commence the conduct of its Professional Examinations in Cameroon from May 21 – 22, 2013. This is the kernel of a Press Release signed ICAN’s Assistant Director of Corporate Affairs, Dayo Ajigbotosho.
According to Dayo, arrangements have been concluded in partnership with a professional body of Cameroonian Accountants known in the French acronym as ONECCA to conduct the examination come May 2013 in Buea, Southwest Region.
The release also noted that registration as candidate for the Professional Examination and payment through United Bank for Africa PLC Douala, Cameroon, is online via the ICAN website; www.ican-ngr.org, www.icanexamsonline.org/professional
ICAN is the largest professional accountancy body in Africa and the only one in Nigeria that is a founding member of International Federation of Accountants, IFAC. Since its inception and in line with its accuracy and integrity motto, ICAN examinations have been conducted without any leakage.
The ICAN Professional Examinations is usually held twice every year; May and November in 32 centres across Nigeria and one centre in London, UK. “Enrolment for the examination is open to registered students,” the release noted.
Cameroon is one of the member countries of Association of Accountancy Bodies in West Africa, ABWA, the umbrella body for professional Accountancy Institutes in the West African sub-region, set up to promote the Accountancy profession in the sub-region as well as contribute to the economic development of member countries.
Established by the Act of Parliament Number 15 of 1965, ICAN is empowered to set standards of knowledge and skill to be attained by persons wishing to become members of the accountancy profession. The Institute has over 36,000 members and over 120,000 students on its registers.
Its vision, the release mentioned is to be a leading global professional body while its mission is to produce world-class Chartered Accountants, regulate and continuously enhance their ethical standards and technical competence in the public interest.
Created forty eight years ago by the Act of Parliament No. 15 of 1965, ICAN has been the foremost professional Institute in Nigeria, producing world-class professionals, making remarkable contributions to the nation’s development through its strict maintenance of high standards and regulation
of the Accountancy Profession. In line with the provisions of the IFAC’s Statement of Membership Obligation, SMO, the Institute raises its standards regularly.
