It was a festive and exhilarating atmosphere at the esplanade of the Dibombari Council premises recently. At the behest of the Mayor, Chief Frédéric Nguime Ekollo, more than a thousand children, men, women, traditional, religious and administrative authorities came out to feast with the Mayor, Councillors and the Council staff.
Besides the plethora of gifts offered to the children, they also danced to their traditional rhythms, engaged in a tug-of-war and other creative exercises.
An Elite of Dibombari, Salomon Njoh, wished the children a splendid Christmas 2012 and a successful new year 2013. Njoh entreated the Mayor to forge ahead with his development-oriented initiatives.
The DO of Dibombari, Boniface Tene, thanked the people, the Council authorities, the elites and the Mayor for making the Dibombari Christmas Party 2012 a success and bringing joy to the homes of the children and inhabitants of Dibombari. “There is no other intention to this gesture. The Mayor is investing in the future of our children and bringing to their door steps happiness,” Tene said.
He prayed for the development of Dibombari, while wishing for unity and hard work for all. “I have information that during the colonial days and just after the independence of French Speaking Cameroon in 1960, Dibombari was amongst the top eight towns of Cameroon. Why are we regressing today? We have to regain the glory of the past via concerted efforts,” the DO pleaded.
Chief Nguime Ekollo, Mayor of Dibombari said his administration is not only interested in the physical and infrastructural development of the municipality, but giving a place to the younger generation. “We’ve to put the children on our agenda and project them in the national scene. They are part and parcel of the Council, especially at this time that we commemorate the nativity of Jesus Christ,” he added.
The Mayor mentioned that the Council budgeted FCFA 4 Million for the exercise, but he expressed gratitude for the enormous support received from his elites and friends, noting that it will only be better in subsequent years.
Some observers of the ceremony congratulated the elites from Dibombari for uniting their forces and crafting out a beautiful ceremony for their children. “We wish the best to our elites in all their endeavours and look forward to greater things and the development of our Council,” a delighted mother said.
The colourful ceremony was spiced with lots of music. Amongst the artists invited were the Cameroonian music icon, Ekambi Brillant, who churned out some of his soul searching songs and Dina Micou, former winner of the National Song Competition, sponsored by brewery company, Les Brasseries Du Cameroun.
The Dibombari municipality has a population of more than 17,000 inhabitants. It is one of the subdivisions in Moungo Division, Littoral Region.
