Prince Ndedi Eyango Pierre Takes Over SOCAM

The General Assembly of the The Cameroon Civil Society for Musical Arts (SOCAM) has elected a new executive with Prince Eyango as the Board Chairman and Adeline Mbenkum as the Vice. The election took place at the Yaoundé Conference Center. The entire exercise started on Saturday the 2nd of November at exactly 9 am and ended on Sunday the 3rd at 5 am.

Present was the Minister of Culture, Ama Tutu Muna; the President of the Electoral Commission, Prof Jean Calin Abaa Oyono, the Divisional Officer for Yaoundé 3, Bikola Ateba.

Before the start of the voting exercise, the Minister of Culture advised artists not to rely on the tips given them by some candidates as a means to buy their consciences for their personal interests. Five hundred and thirty seven artists voted, and 10 votes were nullified for not

respecting voting procedures. Therefore the actual number of votes totaled 527.

Securing 202 votes or 38.33 percent of total votes put Prince Eyango on a relative majority ahead of his opponents. He was followed by Romeo Dika with 126 votes or 23.9 percent. Moussa Haissam took third position with 113 votes or 21.44 percent.  Ateh Bazor came fourth with 71 votes or 11.57 percent of total votes.  Mbega Bienvenu had 15 votes or scored 2.44 percent. 10 votes giving a total of 1.9 percent of total votes.

A total of 411 votes put Prince Eyango on absolute majority, when Moussa Haissam, Ateh Bazore, Mbega Bienvenu and Parole Sustene unanimously decided to offer their votes to him. In a state of unity, Romeo Dika had no choice than to do same, offering his 126 votes in support of Prince Eyango. He concluded that no other person would be suitable for the job than Prince Eyango.

Mr. Dika encouraged artists to stand solidly behind the newly elected board chairman for a bright future of SOCAM.
