Extacy Restaurant, a new food service opens its doors at the Banda neighborhood in Soa by 17 third year students of the University of Yaoundé II to serve mouth watering dishes.

Encouraged by Pastor Philip, President of Extacy Restaurant, the students see the venture as a means to feed the masses, become self-employed and fellowship with one another – for they were inspired by the word of God according to Proverbs 6:6.

Tabot Mbikang Mercedes, who is one of the cooks, adds that while God is their inspiration, he honed his cooking skills when he was a child growing with his grandmother. He always had plans to open a restaurant due to the passion he had for cooking, so he happily embraced this restaurant opportunity when it came.

Mercedes is not, however, the only cook. Each partner puts time to cook daily meals for the restaurants that includes fufu and eru, ndole, plantains, chicken

soup, rice and Italian soup. A plate of any of these foods cost 500 francs CFA.  Apart from food, the restaurant offers natural fresh juice extracted from paw paw, mango, orange, pine apple and water melon. Each of the juice drink costs 300 francs CFA.

Owners of Extacy Restaurant believe that their pricing is affordable; hence they receive a minimum of 20 customers per day; this brings them an average income of about 20,000 francs CFA per day.

Mac, a regular customer, admits that the quality of the food and the cleanliness of the restaurant is his reason to come and eat there. He brings along friends to eat as a way to encourage and promote the business. Mac encourages the partners of the restaurant to take whatever advice they receive from their customers seriously, so that they can improve on the quality of food and services they offer.

they’ll have to hire more workers as the business grows. More employees will help them juggle restaurant and school work. However, the only problem they face, according to Teke Rene, Manager of Extacy Restaurant, is the cost of food. Teke told iCameroon that they have already spent $650,000 francs CFA to start and run the restaurant.

Nonetheless, even though the restaurant has been only two weeks old, they have high hopes. They are encouraged by faith as one of their partners, Tracey Tanyi, plays gospel music in the background to entertain customers and keep their spirits high.
