Cameroon: After defeat from Cape Verde, friendly against Egypt cancelled

The problems around the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon continue to multiply. After shamefully losing to little known Cape Verdean Blue Sharks, 0-2, Saturday, September 8 2012 in Praia, the Lions will not travel to Egypt for a programmed international friendly.

According to a communiqué published on the website of Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT, captioned; Indomitable Lions: Cancellation of the friendly match Egypt – Cameroon and signed by the Secretary General of the football governing body, Tombi A Roko Sidiki, Sunday, September 9 2012 states: “Due to insecurity in Egypt, the Egyptian

Football Federation, today, Sunday, September 9 2012 informs her Cameroonian counterpart, FECAFOOT that the programmed friendly between the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and the Pharaohs of Egypt slated for Alexandria, Tuesday, September 11 2012 at 19:30 Cameroon time has been cancelled.”

This new twist from the Egyptian Football Federation is coming after they had expressed reservations on their interest to forge ahead with the aforementioned international football friendly, when Samuel Fils Eto’o made public is intention to suspend his participation with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon if FECAFOOT does not stop its amateurish and unprofessional ways of handling football activities in the country and the management of the Lions’ den.

The Saturday poor showing in Praia by the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, observers hold, could have been another reason for the Egyptians to back out from a deal they were to entirely bear the cost.

Losing 0-2 to Cape Verde in the first leg, last qualifiers for AFCON 2013 in South Africa, the Lions have compromised their chances. The Cameroonian team will have to beat Cape Verde in Yaoundé come October 13 2012 by three goals without conceding any if they have to be in South Africa next year. If this does not happen on October 13, the Lions will be missing out for the second consecutive times at the AFCON. They missed out earlier this year (2012) at the Gabon – Equatorial Guinea expedition.

In the other results recorded across the continent; Zambia 1-0 Uganda, CAR 1-0 Burkina Faso, Gabon 1-1 Togo, Ghana 2-0 Malawi, Sierra Leone 2-2 Tunisia, Sudan 5-3 Ethiopia, Mali 3-0 Botswana, Ivory Coast 4-2 Senegal and Liberia 2-2 Nigeria.
